The Musée des Arts Décoratifs Celebrates Fashion and Sports

With the imminent 2024 Olympics in mind, the Musée des Arts décoratifs in Paris presents “Fashion and Sports: From One Podium to Another” from the 20th of September 2023 to the 7th of April, 2024. This major exhibition traces the fascinating interconnections between fashion and sports from Ancient Times to the present day, thus highlighting how, while seemingly unrelated, these two worlds share common approaches towards the body.

Through the 450 items of clothing, accessories, photographs, sketches, magazines, posters, paintings, sculptures and videos composing it, the exhibition illustrates the evolution of sportswear and its influence on contemporary fashion trends. Moreover, it reveals how sportswear shifted away from its specific use to become an integral part of our everyday wardrobes. The exhibition is built around the notion of comfort, which helps us understand how jogging suits and sneakers became fashion staples, both for everyday wear and the haute couture sphere.

At the opening evening, we ran into many personalities including Sylvie Correard, Christine Macel, Johannes Huth, Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, Pierre-André Maus, Jacques Bungert, Jorge Campos, Véronique de Villèle and Mathieu Forget.
