The Christian Berst Art Brut Gallery Presents “Megalopolis” by Sebastián Ferreira
Internationally acclaimed for its role in representing and institutionalising contemporary art brut, the christian berst art brut gallery is now highlighting the work of Sebastien Ferreira. Baptized “Megalopolis”, this solo exhibition offers visitors the chance to delve not only into the work of the Paraguayan artist, but also into his very inner world. For what we now see exhibited as art was originally a means for Sebastian Ferreira to interact with a world from which he was physically cut off. Isolated after being diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia at the age of 15, graphite and paper became natural communication tools for him, a bridge between his imagination and the exterior urban reality. These skilful drawings, which showcase an acute perception of space, infrastructure and his talent as graphic designer, were also a way of coping with the impossibility of pursuing his desired career as an architect. In the adjoining exhibition space, the Bridge, another exhibition has just been inaugurated: Unveiling the World. Under the direction of Spanish curator Graciela Garcia, this show features works of Andrès Fernandez and Santiago Talavera engaging in an insightful dialogue.
