The Palais de Tokyo inaugurates “Fragmentation of the world” season
“Our world is burning,” that’s a fact. If the recent fires that devastated Australia, California or the Amazon are the physical mark of the ecological emergency in which we live, the Palais de Tokyo adds to this alarming observation the political and diplomatic tensions and wars that are destroying certain regions of the world. Regions such as the Persian Gulf, highlighted by this first exhibition as part of the “Fragmentation of the World” series and on the occasion of the Qatar France 2020 cultural year. Designed by Abdellah Karroum, Director of the Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art in Doha, “Our World Burns” offers a committed look at contemporary creation from the Middle East, North Africa and their diasporas. This week, the Palais de Tokyo and its president Emma Lavigne welcomed His Excellency Sheikh Hassan bin Mohamed bin Ali Al Thani, who is presenting some of the works from his private collection. The visit of the exhibition continued with the discovery of a solo show granted to Ulla von Brandenburg. The German artist creates an immersive and evolving space with colorful curtains inviting the visitor to enter. Also on display: “Le Grand Mur” by Kevin Rouillard (Sam Prize for Contemporary Art 2018) and “L’Huile et l’eau” by Nicolas Daubanes (Prix des amis du Palais de Tokyo 2018).
