Zeus, the Steel Horse of the Paris 2024 Olympics, Gallops Across the MUCEM
Last Wednesday, the Mucem unveiled a donation of three costumes specially made for the Opening Ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympics. To the delight of the Marseille residents, the museum had yet another surprise planned: Zeus, the steel horse featured in the famous ceremony, has also been brought to the Mucem, displayed on the building’s terrace. One of the most unforgettable memories of the ceremony, Zeus is an engineering feat of its own, created by the Nantes-based workshop Blam. Every four minutes, the metallic horse will be activated and gallop just like it did on the Seine River.
The inauguration was attended by Thomas Jolly and Thierry Reboul, respectively Artistic Director and Executive Director of the 2024 Paris Olympics Ceremonies.
For the occasion, the Mucem gave free access to its permanent exhibition “Populaire ?”, which now includes the three donated costumes. Thanks to this gift by the Organising Committees for the Olympic Games, visitors will be able to see Marie-Antoinette’s beheaded costume, the clothes of the mysterious bearer of the flame, as well as the uniforms of the last torchbearers. A sensible way of connecting Paris and Marseille, the initiative brought together President of the Mucem Pierre-Olivier Costa, Director of Sanofi France Charles Wolf, designer of the Zeus horse Aurélien Meyer, leader of the South Winners Rachid Zeroual, as well as artist Laure Prouvost…
