Sabine Marceli’s Minimalist and Lyrical Design Arrives at IKEA with the VARMBLIXT Collection

On January 17, Paris was shining brighter than ever as the famous City of Light was the scene not only of Design Week, but also of Fashion Week. The evening’s agenda was full, and choices had to be made. However, for design enthusiasts, the decision was clear: the place to be wasn’t a catwalk but rather the Galerie Italienne, where IKEA was launching VARMBLIXT, a collection in collaboration with Sabine Marcelis.

Famous for her lyrical explorations of light and its sensory effects, the Rotterdam-based designer has brought her minimalist approach and unique attention to materiality to this collaborative collection. Sensuous shapes, pastel colours and warm lights are at the heart of this unique capsule of 20 pieces. Suspended, hung, and distributed around the exhibition space, Marceli’s creations transformed the gallery into a radiant and captivating ecosystem. DJ sets by Tony Goodguy, Benjiflow, BtoB Andy 4000 and Piu Piu set the pace for an evening that no one wanted to end. If there was anything we regretted, it was not being able to get our hands on some of the pieces, as VARMBLIXT will not be on sale until the end of January. As a consolation prize, however, guests were able to indulge in KORVMOJ, the famous vegetarian hotdog, a must whenever one visits IKEA. During the launching, we ran into several personalities from the design scene, such as India Mahdavi or Julius Iversen, and of course, Sabine Marcelis.
