Canada Goose highlights Inuit heritage with “Project Atigi”
When fashion and function collide. Luxury parka powerhouse Canada Goose has landed in Paris with a new boutique on the rue St. Honoré and a new “Project Atigi” collection from native Inuit designers. As Paris Men’s and Couture Fashion weeks wrapped in the capital, Canada goose broke the ice to celebrate their brand new boutique and collection. “Atigi” means “parka” in Inuktitut and the collection celebrates the expertise and rich heritage of the specific craftsmanship that has enabled Inuit populations to live in some of the most challenging climates and conditions. After a successful and impactful inaugural launch last year, the new collection has expanded to include 90 custom pieces created by 18 inuit designers from 12 Inuit Nunangat communities. Available in both men’s and women’s styles, proceeds from the “Project Atigi” collection will be donated back to Inuit communities across Canada via Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami (ITK). The collection blends their artisanal savoir faire (and winter survival skills!) with the brand’s technology and expertise in the science of keeping warm. Guests at the Parisian launch including Marie-Ange Casta, Sarah Poniatowski, Thomac Dutronc, Mademoiselle Agnès and Alessandra Sublet stayed cozy in their warm coats and warm welcome from their new Canadian friends. Finally, a reason to love Paris in the wintertime!
