Chiharu Shiota Imbues the Grand Palais with her Oneiric Universe
According to an old Chinese tale, soulmates are bound together by an invisible red thread. For over 25 years, Japanese artist Chiharu Shiota has used red threads to weave interpersonal connections, binding a multitude of narratives in the form of complex and immersive installations. Transcending the myth of soulmates, her creations take on monumental scope as they explore the relationship between people and their environment, and address the deepest mysteries of consciousness.
From December 11th, 2024 to March 19th, 2025, the Grand Palais invites us to discover the complexity of these intricate universes with the exhibition “The Soul Trembles”. Co-organized by the GrandPalaisRmn, Paris and the Mori Art Museum of Tokyo, this is the largest exhibition dedicated to Chiharu Shiota in France. With fascinating installations, clips from her performances, photographs and drawings, “The Soul Trembles” is an invitation to discover a dreamlike universe, and an unprecedented opportunity to deep dive into the artistic approach of one of the most celebrated visual artists of our time.
At the opening, held on Monday, December 9th, we met Enzo Lefort, Laurent Grasso, Matthieu Poirier, Daphné Bürki, Diane Pernet, Daniel Templon, Anna Planas and many others.
