Photograph Harry Gruyaert and friends at Rupture
For over forty years, Harry Gruyaert has been recording the subtle chromatic pulsations of shorelines around the world. From the Baie de Somme to Morocco and Tanzania, he is fascinated by blurred, threatening or clear skies, shadows and skylines. The photographer’s gaze seeks to capture dazzling instants Fifteen years after the first edition of a now mythical series, Harry Gruyaert adds some fifty new images revealing the endless possibilities of poetic wonder. The Antwerp photographer and outstanding colorist has been casting a pictorial eye on the world for half a century. In the 1970s and 1980s, along with the Americans Saul Leiter, Joel Meyerowitz, Stephen Shore and William Eggleston, Gruyaert was one of the few European pioneers to give color a purely creative dimension. His work has been exhibited all over the world and is notably part of the permanent collection of the Georges Pompidou Center. Last night, he gathered a few friends at Rupture’s studio.
