“Le Loup de Fer” Exhibition at the Espace Commines, a Tribute to the City of Vilnius
On March 9, we attended the opening of the exhibition “Le Loup de Fer” at the Espace Commines. This exhibition had been conceived around the Lithuanian capital, cradle of Baltic culture and a historic hub for artistic creation. It owes its name to a local story, a medieval legend that tells of the founding of the city on the shores of the river Neris, symbolically announced in dreams by the appearance of a huge Iron Wolf. Inspired by this legend and the 700th anniversary of the Lithuanian capital, Julia Palmeirao envisaged this exhibition to present her beloved hometown as a kaleidoscope, a puzzle, both through the exhibition itself and the accompanying events programme.
Julia Palmeraiao showcases here the work of multiple artists from Vilnius, belonging to different creative fields, in order to offer a collaborative portrait of a creative, multicultural and inclusive city. The exhibition features artists who all live and work in Vilnius: Audra Vau (sculpture and video), Andrius Zakarauskas (painting), Vytenis Lingys (painting), Mykolas Sauka (sculpture), Imantas Selenis (photography), Meda Norbutaitė (painting), Eglė Kuckaitė (graphics), Patricija Jurkšaitytė (painting), Linas Jusionis (painting), Antanas Sutkus (photography), Vilmantas Marcinkevičius (painting), Inga Galinytė (performance art), Nerijus Erminas (sculpture), Berta Tilmantaitė, Neringa Rekašiūtė, Rūta Meilutytė, Aurelija Striužė (Video work – performance art “Swimming Through”), Tadas Cern (photography).
