Announcement of the Jean-François Prat Prize 2023 Winner

As part of the Jean-François Prat Prize, the Bredin Prat Foundation has invited the finalists of the 2023 edition, Mandy El-Sayegh, Jem Perucchini and Philipp Timischl, to present their works in a group exhibition that will be running until July 20. This yearly event has become one of the leading international contemporary art prizes dedicated to innovation in painting in France. For this edition, 3 artists have made it to the final thanks to their singular artistic practices.

Philipp Timischl, a multi-disciplinary artist who presented hybrid works combining video and painting, Mandy El-Sayegh, an expert in collage and juxtaposition, and the winner of this edition Jem Perucchini. The latter draws his inspiration from a specific kind of Renaissance aesthetics, namely Sienese painting, to create immersive works that allow viewers to identify with the depicted subjects. Without ever entering into a political dimension, the Ethiopian-born artist knows how to create canvases of an intimate allure by introducing black figures into scenes full of mystery and mysticism; at the heart of the history of humanity.

Jem Perucchini’s work struck a chord with the entire jury, chaired by Manuel Borja Villel, co-curator of the Sao Paulo 2023 Biennial and former director of the Reina Sofia Museum, alongside supporting curators Nicolas Trembley, Cécile Bourne-Farrell and Julie Boukobza. The jury in charge of selection included Frédéric Bonnet, Frédéric Brière, Odile Burluraux, Anaël Pigeat and Marie-Aline Prat.

The inauguration of the exhibition gathered around 600 guests.
