Galerie Negropontes Presents Gianluca Pacchioni and Mauro Mori’s “Italian Renaissances”
Galerie Negropontes presents the work of Italian artists Gianluca Pacchioni and Mauro Mori in the duo exhibition “Italian Renaissances”, running until May 10th. Acting as a bridge between eras, the exhibition highlights the relationship between human beings and nature, a central theme for Renaissance painters such as Benvenuto Cellini and Michelangelo. Like a contemporary, sculptural reinterpretation of 16th-century Italy, their pieces forge a link between cultural heritage and contemporary artistic practice.
Gianluca Pacchioni is a celebrated specialist in metal (bronze, steel, brass, etc), which he mixes with stone and concrete to transform raw materials into refined works of art. The result is what he refers to as ‘jewellery furniture’, pieces of exceptional finesse, sublimated by rose quartz or amethyst like in the Cremino and Under the Sheets consoles, or by sculpted plant elements.
Albizia Rosa wood from the Seychelles, stone from Carrara – where Michelangelo got his supplies – or black marble from Belgium: Mauro Mori has travelled all over the world in search of entirely natural materials, which he sculpts, dyes, polishes and reworks to create authentic, organic and functional pieces.
At the inaugural cocktail reception, we ran into Sophie Negropontes, alongside artists Gianluca Pacchioni and Mauro Mori, as well as Ioana Bivolaru, Janine Sarbu, Eric de Dormael and Sonia Poniatowski.
