GCDS’s Homeward Journey
GCDS takes a new turn. The brand says goodbye to its beloved cartoons, fantasy worlds and exaggerated fashion. For the Spring-Summer 24 collection, Giuliano Calza returns home, to the place where it all began. It is a return to the roots with new clothes, carrying a new sense of wisdom and awareness acquired, reflecting the knowledge he’s been acquiring throughout his career. No big show for this collection, but rather an intimate gathering with only 200 guests (we were among those). The collection was presented in the brand’s headquarters, in a set reminiscent of the atelier presentations that used to be the rule, once upon a time. The entire space was covered with muted yellow curtains, and before the show began, small cans of Pepsi x GCDS, a collaboration that went sold out in just a few days, were served. On the runway, bustier dresses, bodysuits and micro tops were paraded to match raffia culottes or mini skirts. There is certainly no shortage of sporty streaks, so here are over sweaters and college uniforms. The yellow of the location reflects on silver mirror-effect accessories, buckles and monogrammed briefs. Sky-high heels alternate with studded ballet flats for a bold and experimental look. Despite the intimacy of the show, guests included Bryan Boy, Mattia Stanga, Jacob Rott, Mia Khalifa and Itzan Escamilla.
