The Fondation Louis Vuitton Puts Pop Art in the Spotlight with Tom Wesselmann

The Fondation Louis Vuitton has often featured Pop Art exhibitions: we remember the Warhol and Basquiat show last year. This time, a new retrospective of unprecedented proportions brings about yet another dimension to the movement. The exhibition presents a selection of over 150 works by Tom Wesselmann (1931-2004), one of the leading figures of American Pop Art, alongside 70 works by 35 international artists, ranging from modern artists such as Marcel Duchamp, Roy Lichtenstein and Andy Warhol, to contemporary ones such as Ai Weiwei, Lauren Halsey or even Yayoi Kusama. The obvious heterogeneity of the works presented in the exhibition is explained by the curators’ desire to question the presence of a Pop influence in artists who seem far removed from the movement. The Fondation Louis Vuitton thus offers a completely new reading of this major art form.

At the opening, we met Larry Gagosian, Danièle Thompson, Farida Khelfa, Jean-Michel Othoniel, Gaïa Repossi, Christian de Portzamparc, Laurent Dassault, Laurent Le Bon and others.
