With CENTRE-VILLE, Études Rethinks Urban Masculinities

Études Studio needs no introduction, as the brand achieves an artistic and sartorial tour de force with each collection. The latest proof of that was brought on Tuesday night with the presentation of CENTRE-VILLE, which took place in a garage turned catwalk. Once again, Études rethought its identity, this time through the prism of urbanity. Revisiting the classics of the genre, the collection invites a reflection on the multiple ideas of masculinity by reinventing each piece of the men’s wardrobe.

The show started with total look denim silhouettes, which then evolved into hybrid looks playing with the modernity/tradition dichotomy. So we saw combinations of pieces that, at first glance, seemed antagonistic, like a down jacket with a wool suit and… a pair of Aigle rubber boots. As usual, the show broke down the holy boundaries between disciplines by inviting artists from all fields to reflect on the broader theme of urbanity and the appropriation of urban space. Amsterdam-based Swiss artist Batia Suter was invited to design pieces based on her graphic and photographic assemblages, and author-composer Koudlam performed in a live concert that served as the soundtrack to the show. All of this, of course, was constructed with careful attention to material selection, from cold wool suits to velvet pants and satin jackets.
