EgonLab: Modern-Day Witches

Last Wednesday, EgonLab took over the Institut du Monde Arabe to present “S4LEM”. Drawing inspiration from the past, and alluding to the parallels between the witch-hunts in America during the 19th century and modern-day discrimination, Florentin Glémarec and Kévin Nompeix delivered a stimulating and truly disruptive collection. In a mysterious ambience, fueled by a dark setting and eerie background sounds, the label presented a singular wardrobe full of volume. Special attention is given to necklines and sleeves, which recall a dated silhouette but brought back to style thanks to contemporary pieces with perfect tailoring.

Each look is full of surprises. Long leather-strap fringes are arranged as necklaces or fall through eyelets built into the garment, scarves become pants: textures blend together to create an asymmetrical style that’s almost exuberant, but never excessive, made with leather, denim and dark colours. Chic, elegant and oversized, these mystical looks are reminiscent of modern-day witches. A memorable presentation where we met Rocco Ritchie, Ozuna and Keiona, among others.
