Christian Berst Unveils an Eclectic Selection of Art Brut
As the year comes to an end, the christian berst – art brut gallery presents two remarkable exhibitions that build daring bridges between the arts.
In music, a variation is a modification of a theme. It can be melodic, rhythmic or harmonic, developing the musical motif, reworking and transforming it, without ever altering it. With “Variations d’Hiver”, the gallery embraces this concept and draws a parallel with Art Brut. Like orchestra conductors, seventeen artists draw us into the virtuoso score of their art, and reveal the diversity of their personalities. All these interpretations translate into a multiplicity of techniques and media, such as cork sculpture, pastel, Indian ink and even ballpoint pen.
In its space called The Bridge, designed to create a connection between Art Brut and other art forms, the gallery also welcomes Danièle Hibon’s exhibition “Poupées Mirages”. Curated by Dominique Païni, the exhibition revisits the legacy of modern art through a series of intriguing sculptures, puppets and creatures, combining wood, feathers and other unexpected materials. Since the 1970s, Danièle Hibon has been collecting rare materials imbued with history, which she weaves, assembles and glues to create one-of-a-kind dolls. The exhibition presents 25 of these pieces, all infused with a singular poetry that brings art and life together.
At the opening, personalities from the cultural world such as Jeanne Balibar, Denis Lavant, Serge Toubiana, Xavier Rey, Alfred Pacquement, Marc Donnadieu and Nicolas Philibert were present to celebrate these extraordinary creations.
