Jean-Michel Othoniel Unveils A Large-Scale Exhibition in the Heart of Avignon
To celebrate its double anniversary as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and European Capital of Culture, the city of Avignon is being transformed into a huge stage for contemporary art. From June 28th, 2025 to January 4th, 2026, visual artist Jean-Michel Othoniel will be taking over ten of the city’s most emblematic sites with a new exhibition, the most ambitious of his career. Called ‘OTHONIEL COSMOS or the Ghosts of Love’, this artistic journey brings together 250 works, connecting museums, monuments and public spaces in an artistic and poetic constellation.
From the Palais des Papes to the Pont d’Avignon, but also the Collection Lambert and the Musée Calvet, the artist presents sculptures, paintings, beads, blown glass, fountains and astrolabes, all forming a sensory narrative of exceptional reach. The highlight of this adventure will take place in August in the Cour d’Honneur of the Palais des Papes, with an exciting performance created by choreographer Carolyn Carlson, and performed by Hugo Marchand and Caroline Osmont.
To celebrate the opening of this unique exhibition, a dinner in honour of the artist was organised by PERROTIN in collaboration with the KUKJE and SIMÕES DE ASSIS galleries. Catered by chefs Pierre Sang and Pierre Hermé and in partnership with Ruinart, the dinner took place in the heart of the Palais des Papes, where we met Sophie Calle, Johan Creten, Lee Ufan, Peter Marino, Yvon Lambert, François Quintin, John Nollet, Nadra Moussalem, Baptiste Caillaud, Fabrice Bousteau and others.
