Expo 2020: Cartier inaugurates the Women’s Pavilion in Dubai
The Dubai World Expo will go down in history for featuring an entire Women’s Pavilion for the first time since 1950. This initiative is the result of an exceptional collaboration between Expo2020 Dubai and the House of Cartier, whose history is inextricably linked to women, both as a source of inspiration and a driving force. As this edition of the World Expo – the first to be held in the MEASA region (Middle East, Africa and South Asia) – takes place on the theme ‘Connecting Minds, Creating the Future’, Cartier presents ‘New Perspectives’ at the Women’s Pavilion, a major exhibition retracing the contribution of women from in past and current times. With the message “When women thrive, humanity thrives”, the Pavilion offers a space for dialogue on the challenges women face to this day as well as a vision of the future based on equality and solidarity. On this occasion, Cartier invited four personalities to contribute to the Pavilion as curators. Architect Laura Gonzalez designed the building’s facade inspired by the pattern of a cut jewel from the Cartier archives. On the lower part of the facade, artist El Seed laid down his colors in homage to a community of women in Nepal who too charge to rebuild their homes after the 2015 earthquake. Inside, directors Nadine Labaki and Mélanie Laurent present films a tributes to women around the world. At the occasion of the Pavilion’s inauguration, Cartier invited friends and brand ambassadors to a private dinner in the desert in the presence of Cyrille Vigneron, President and CEO of Cartier. A candlelit dinner during which Farida Khelfa, Elisa Sednaoui, Vanessa Kirby and Ramla Ali enjoyed a concert under the stars by the famous pianist Khatia Buniatishvili.
