Villa Medici inaugurates “Take Me (I’m yours)”
This is an exhibition you’re invited to touch, taste, and even take away. “Take Me (I’m yours)” was first conceived in 1995 by Christian Boltanski and Hans Ulrich-Obrist for the Serpentine Gallery in London. Over twenty years, the exhibition has known several iterations, notably in 2015 with a major edition at Monnaie de Paris curated by Chiara Parisi. On May 31st, the Roman curator returned to her origins alongside the Boltanski and Obrist to offer, in Rome’s most beautiful artistic setting, a completely new experience. We’re indeed talking about the French Academy in Rome – more commonly called Villa Medici. As an artistic and cultural breeding ground, this year the Villa counts fifteen residents. Each of them participated in this collective exhibition (along with many artists from around the world, for a total of 89 participants) which will continue “until everything is gone” – which is scheduled for August 15. Rare are the opportunities to explore an exhibition as vast as it is diverse and through which the visitor brings the works to life through his presence and participation. With this event, Muriel Mayette-Holtz, director of Villa Medici since 2015, has succeeded in expanding the institution with an unprecedented programme. Some highlights of the inauguration: for the first time in its history, the Villa’s underground galleries where opened to the public with a selection of works exhibited, a shared cocktail in the director’s offices, or an exceptional talk led by Hans-Ulrich Obrist in the company of artists and special guests. www.villamedici.it
