Artissima 2022 Has Started and is Proudly Filled with Pride

The fair’s new edition has opened at Torino Oval Lingotto: the elite of the world of contemporary art has arrived in Turin

It has now become an unmissable event, sort of like the Venice Film Festival or the Tour de France. The twenty-ninth edition of contemporary art fair Artissima was inaugurated at the Oval Lingotto, an indoor arena in Turin, Italy.

This year’s theme is Transformative Experience, because, according to new director Luigi Fassi, “only a transformative experience is capable of fundamentally transforming the person experiencing it”.

On location, 174 galleries from 28 nations are divided into four flagship sections (Main Section, Monologue/Dialogue, New Entries, Art Spaces & Editions) and by 3 curated sections (Present Future, Back to the Future, Disegni). Be sure not to miss the section dedicated to drawings (Disegni). And then conferences, prizes, monographic exhibitions and special projects, the most futuristic being the one commissioned by Jaguar, an installation created by Anderson Tegon which offers an immersive experience. The historic brand is preparing a full transformation of its identity by becoming a brand of electric-only luxury cars.

During the opening on Thursday, the best of Italian and international art was seen by artists, curators, gallery owners, directors of museum, fairs and foundations, but also designers, musicians, models and journalists. Everyone was looking for inspiration, enlightenment. Hans Ulrich Obrist, cult curator and artistic director of the Serpentine Galleries in London. Marc Spiegler, the historic CEO of Art Basel who has just handed over his position to Noah Horowitz. Vincenzo De Bellis, director of Art Basel fairs and exhibition platforms worldwide. Arturo Galansino, general manager of the Palazzo Strozzi Foundation in Florence. Patrizia Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, of the Sandretto Re Rebaudengo Foundation in Turin. Francesca Lavazza, member of the board of directors of the Lavazza group and president of the Castello di Rivoli. All together to passionately celebrate art and creativity.
