Gold rush at the Musée Yves Saint Laurent

2022 marks the sixtieth anniversary of Yves Saint Laurent’s first collection under his own name, as well as the fifth anniversary of the Musée Yves Saint Laurent Paris. Entitled GOLD, this anniversary exhibit explores the designer’s emblematic use of gold. The show was curated by Elsa Janssen, the museum’s director since March 2022, alongside fellow museum staff, and with further art direction by Anna Klossowski. The exhibition GOLD, Les ors d’Yves Saint Laurent, presents a gilded selection of forty haute couture and ready-to-wear dresses, a selection of accessories and objects, and displays wholly composed of jewellery, an indispensable element in the YSL silhouette. From the very buttons that gild the coats to the fully golden dresses, no collection escapes the designer’s “golden” signature touch. All the materials lend themselves to the golden glimmer: brocades, lace, lamé, sequins, leather, embroidery, fabrics, jewellery, perfume, gold keeps on sparkling… During a dazzling soirée in the museum, we met, among others, Laurent Le Bon, Elie Top, Jean-Charles de Castalbajac, and Emily Marrant.
