Pop-up Yamato, Paris Meets the Elegance of the Kimono

To kick off the new year on a high note, Tokyo-based kimono brand YAMATO is launching its first pop-up store in Paris, heralding its entry into the international fashion market. This ephemeral space, located in the heart of the Marais quarter, opened its doors with an exclusive cocktail party on Wednesday.

Founded in 1917 by the great-grandfather of the current Chairman and CEO, Takayuki Yajima, the brand is devoted to reinventing the traditional kimono to make it accessible and adaptable to our times. Yajima’s mission is to make kimonos a versatile and essential piece of daily wear.

The opening event saw the presentation of YAMATO’s two brands: Y. & SONS and KIMONO by NADESHIKO. The former was founded in 2015 and brings a unique twist to streetwear with a range of men’s kimonos. The pieces, crafted from organic cotton flannel and wool, have a timeless feel and blend Japanese and Western influences. KIMONO by NADESHIKO, founded in 2004, presents a women’s wardrobe that pushes the boundaries of creativity by offering reinterpretations of kimonos and haori jackets.

This Parisian pop-up is a unique opportunity for Japanese enthusiasts to discover an innovative fusion of tradition and the avant-garde. At the opening we met Kelegh Moutome, Poqssi, Julien Sebbag, Véronique Dang, Catherine Bonifassi and many others.
