Opening of the exhibition’Jean Lurçat, Au seul bruit du soleil’.

2016 marks the fiftieth anniversary of the death of Jean Lurçat (1892-1966), painter, poet, resistant, great renovator of tapestry and member of the Academy of Fine Arts. The Mobilier national, in partnership with the Fondation Jean et Simone Lurçat and the Académie des beaux-arts, is devoting a major exhibition to him at the Galerie des Gobelins, the first to be held in Paris since 1958 at the Musée national d’art moderne.

It reveals the different facets of the career of Jean Lurçat, leader of a movement that brought together many artists around him and whose role was decisive in the history of art and the renaissance of tapestry in the twentieth century. She also rediscovered a singular painter who had great success between the two wars in Europe and the United States.
