The Musée Guimet gives carte blanche to Mr. and Pharrell Williams
The Musée Guimet is giving carte blanche to Japanese artist Mr. with “A Call To Action” (July 11 – September 23). Earlier this year, Galerie Perrotin presented an exhibition of Mr.’s work in Paris, entitled “Melancholy walk around the town”. Now invited by museum president Sophie Makariou, this installation is specially designed for its rotunda. The project started five years ago based on an idea by Pharrell Williams–who is a self-proclaimed fan of Mr.’s work. The result of this long standing collaboration is an installation of bright, child-like figures sporting a military aesthetic (some carry firearms): the duo emphasizes the importance of younger generations in a world tormented by adult choices. While the opening of the exhibition began in the morning with workshops for children, by evening the artists Setsuko Klossowska of Rola and Laurent Grasso arrived… The crowd migrated to the Hôtel d’Heidelbach for a cocktail in the presence of Mr. and Pharrell Williams.
