Maitrepierre x Carel: An Elegant and Lively Sportswear Collection

On the second day of Fashion Week, the promising young fashion designer unveiled his Autumn-Winter 24 collection, created in collaboration with Carel. The French Maison is revisiting its codes and adding a contemporary twist to its timeless style by teaming up with Maitrepierre to create this sportswear line.

Their signature “Babies” are given a sporty twist, thanks to mesh details, bright colours and technical fabrics, reminiscent of the 60s retro style. On the catwalk, silhouettes are enhanced through a pop colour palette and bold cuts, which make tops and dresses look shaped like laser rips or funky yokes.

Parisian elegance meets Kawaii aesthetics, here’s the unexpected blend that Maitrepierre has chosen as inspiration for the collection. Suit jackets become hooded, berets metamorphose into caps worn backwards, and grey, white and black hues are replaced by electric purple, Barbie pink and apple green.

The highlight of the show was a series of sculptural accessories, created by the French designer in collaboration with New York artist Gracelee Lawrence. Cap-like berets and ornaments made from scraps of transgenic corn, evoking sculptures reminiscent of Niki de Saint Phalle, added an artsy and experimental dimension to the show. A real visual delight, at the crossroads of ready-to-wear and large-scale textile innovation.
