Inauguration of the “Basquiat x Warhol. Painting four hands” Exhibition at The Fondation Louis Vuitton
On Monday 3, the Fondation Louis Vuitton inaugurated “Basquiat x Warhol. Painting four hands”. Following a first exploration of Jean-Michel Basquiat’s oeuvre in 2018, the Fondation now examines the artist through the lens of his collaboration with Andy Warhol. Featuring 80 canvas jointly signed by the duo, this exhibition brings together nearly 300 works, including pieces by Keith Haring, Jenny Holzer, Kenny Scharf and Michael Halsband, thus evoking the electric art scene of downtown New York in the 80s. The force of their exchanges leads now the visitors through the exhibition as well as it bears witness to their symbiotic and prolific relationship. Made of art and love, this retrospective promises an unprecedented initiatory journey into this unique meeting of street and pop art. During the opening evening, we met Mr and Mrs Arnault, Jean-Paul Claverie, Laurent Le Bon, Elsa Zylberstein, Christine Lagarde, Jack Lang, and Lisane Basquiat among other guests.
