Vaillant Reveals New Shapes from the Centre Pompidou’s Rooftop

Tuesday 26 September marked Vaillant’s big entrance at the Centre Pompidou. The designer unveiled her latest collection from the rooftop of the building, setting the looks alive against the breathtaking views over the Parisian skyline. This is a well-deserved milestone for the young brand, which enters the Fashion Week calendar for the third consecutive season.

Vaillant’s emblematic lace pieces are still very present in the collection, only this time, her signature palette welcomes hues of yellow and pale blue here and there. The designer has titled the collection “Beaubourg”, and according to her, it’s her most accomplished work to date. On the catwalk, looks play with contrasting notions: they are structured but fluid, imposing yet airy…they balance just the right amount of poetry and rigour to seamlessly blend femininity and masculinity. Low-waisted baggy jeans are dotted with fluttering white flowers, a long black leather coat with insets of raffia lace embroidered with Swarovski crystals, or tube tops and dresses embellished with deconstructed flower-patterned taffeta bows, the overall style reflects the mindset of today’s women. Either wrapped in faux fur or revealing transparent lace, the silhouettes deconstruct the notion of a solid outfit while remaining coherent and glamorous through unique details that bind them together.

We would like to grant an honorary mention to the designer for her impeccably executed outwear, as she’s able to imbue tough-looking long coats with a striking sense of delicacy. Alice Vaillant asserts herself as a mature designer, one who knows her strengths but isn’t afraid of stepping out of her comfort zone and dares to explore more conceptual looks – showcased in pieces like twisted leather puffers or architectural ensembles.

The unveiling of this outstanding line, which elegantly navigates between romance and discipline, was passionately attended by the front-row guests.
