Kicking off Villa Noailles’ Centenary at Librairie 7L

A century ago, Charles and Marie-Laure de Noailles received as a wedding gift a large plot of land on the heights of Hyères, facing the Golden Islands, and decided to commission Robert Mallet Stevens, asking the young architect to design a “small, interesting house to live in”.

The year 2023 marks the Centenary of this extraordinary architectural adventure, but also the 50th anniversary of the acquisition of the Villa Noailles by the commune of Hyères and the 20th anniversary of the creation of the art centre. An exclusive program, of which Chanel is the great benefactor, will pay tribute to the great history of the founders of the Villa Noailles, through a selection of works of art originally gathered by Charles and Marie-Laure de Noailles. A selection that will testify to their taste and their desire to support all artistic fields. The centenary is also a great opportunity to discover – or rediscover – this unique place where the couple received friends, artists and intellectuals, and where, as a result, much of the cultural history of the 20th century was written.

For more than 20 years, the art centre has been trying to promote young generations of artists in the fields of fashion, photography, design and architecture, thus perpetuating the work begun a century ago by the couple. Numerous events will punctuate the year both in Paris and in the south of France. This Thursday, March 30, the festivities began at the Librairie 7L with an excerpt from the famous opera “Ressusciter la Rose”, a commission from the art centre, with the support of Aline Foriel-Destezet. We ran into friends of the Villa including Bruno Pavlovsky, Camélia Jordana, Malik Djoudi, Simon Johannin, Karim Zeriahen, Audrey Azoulay…
