“DUMPTY” Cyprien Gaillard’s Exhibition at Lafayette Anticipations
HUMPTY \ DUMPTY is Cyprien Gaillard’s unprecedented project: an exhibition in two chapters presented simultaneously at the Palais de Tokyo and Lafayette Anticipations. The artist’s proposal goes in line with the dominant theme explored in his artistic practice: tracing down the effects of time and the relationships that humans establish with it.
“Dumpty” is inspired by the period of restoration of prestigious monuments that Paris underwent while preparing for the Olympic Games. Gaillard’s work thus reveals how the city fosters the expression of entropy – degradation, disorder, and unpredictability – and how humans struggle to fight against its traces and inevitable effects. Christine Phal, Laurent Le Bon, Thomas Lélu, and Sarah Andelman were among the attendees of the opening.
