Guerlain Unveils “Les Fleurs du Mal”, an Exhibition Presented at Paris+ by Art Basel

As part of its partnership with Paris+ by Art Basel, Guerlain is presenting an exhibition in tribute to “Les Fleurs du Mal”, a major work by Charles Baudelaire, at 68, Champs-Élysées. The so-called “cursed writer” is known for seizing the essence of flowers, their fragrance, grace, and symbolism, like no other. When Les Fleurs du Mal was first published, the poet received a substantial fine, which would have sent him bankrupt had he not sent a heart-rending letter to the Empress Eugénie, whose kind intervention saved him. Created with Eugénie in mind, Eau Impériale earned the Maison Guerlain the title of Official Court Perfumer. This year marks the 170th anniversary of its iconic bottle, which bears the signature emblem of the bee. The exhibition, curated by Hervé Mikaeloff, features over twenty-five works, including ten produced specifically for the show by multiple international artists, both established and emerging figures of the contemporary art scene. At the inauguration, we met Melchior Rothstein, Pauline d’Andigne, Constance Jablonsky, Sarah Stern, Mélanie Bernier, Reem kherici, Laurent Grasso and Anne de Villepoix.
