From David Horvitz to Campeggi: BiM Space, the heart of Milanese creativity

The other night, BiM, the urban regeneration project in the Bicocca district that is transforming an iconic building into a cutting-edge work destination, became the hub of Milanese creativity. Credit goes to two exhibitions where art blended with design. Causing the spectacular short circuit was the exhibition “Abandoning the Locale,” the first major solo show in Italy dedicated to David Horvitz. Set up on the sixth floor of the structure designed by Vittorio Gregotti, the project was curated by Nicola Ricciardi, artistic director of miart, who selected with the Californian artist over 20 works that trace as many years of his career. Serving as the leitmotif for the entire exhibition program were the most important themes of Horvitz’s poetics: from the concept of time to those of transience and impermanence. Five floors below, “Salone Calmo. A Showcase of Campeggi Objects” found ample space, an installative exhibition focused on the iconic Italian design brand famous for the inventiveness of its products. Once again, BiM’s spaces were not just a stage but an integral part of the show, which had its climax in the proposal curated by C41, an independent magazine and creative production house, and by Specific, a multidisciplinary design and creative production laboratory formed by Patrick Tuttofuoco, Nic Bello, Alessandra Pallotta, Andrea Sala, and Stefano D’Amelio where Campeggi’s transformable objects engaged the audience in the comfort – in the words of the organizers themselves – “of a slow experience in a mix of art, photography, video, and design.” Speaking of the audience, many artists, designers, and creatives were present at the double opening.
