Le Bon Marché Rive Gauche Gives its 9th Carte Blanche to Daniel Buren

For the ninth time, Le Bon Marché Rive Gauche transforms itself through the Carte Blanche programme. Daniel Buren has been given the honour of taking over the emblematic building with his work. “Aux Beaux Carrés: travaux in situ” is the title of this immersive exhibition that spreads through the Le Bon Marché Rive Gauche. The show is a continuation of his artistic endeavour, best epitomized by an exploration of the relationship between artwork and space through a minimalist and rigorous approach. Inspired by the very nature of the glass roof that makes the heart of the department store, Daniel Buren has created monumental works that stretch from the interior to the building’s exterior windows. The foundational structures, over 1,500 squares of polycarbonate, play with light and its multiple refractions, transforming Le Bon Marché into a giant kaleidoscope.

“Aux Beaux Carrés: travaux in situ” was organised thanks to the support of Galleria Continua, and will take place in two acts, the second of which will run from 29 June to 15 August 2024. At the opening of the first act on Thursday 11 January, we also enjoyed a recital by Pierre Yves Plat, Edouard Fernet, Lou Favano and Chantal Santon. Among the guests in attendance, we saw Judith Godrèche, Fabien Valerian, Kim Chapiron, Hugo Marchand, Sarah Andelman, Marie Maertens, Kamel Mennour and many others…
