“Chaillot Expérience #6” Devoted to the Art of Voguing

The “Chaillot Expérience #6” brings us to the French Archipelago through the work of contemporary artists drawing inspiration from an unconventional source: by immersing themselves in their environment, thus delving into spiritual beliefs and celebrating life. These include vogue dancing venues and natural sites such as Gros Morne/Grande Anse in Guadeloupe. In the Antilles-Guyane region, the artistic scene is undergoing a rebirth led by figures inspired by both Caribbean traditions and European and American influences.

The event features a wide programme, including a voguing Major Ball hosted by Legendary Yanou Ninja for over 7 hours, a performance by Lasseindra Ninja, “Chamanik”, which highlights voguing rituals, and a Brazilian voodoo ritual. Other performances include Annabel Guérédrat and Henri Tauliaut’s exploration of power dynamics within couples, a concert by trap and drill artists Deuspi and Lé Will from the Rivière district of Martinique, and a DJ set by multidisciplinary performer Crystallmess.

For those of you who are more curious, you can find the interview with Rachid Ouramdame here, and be sure to tune in on March 29th and 30th for the Chaillot Expérience #7, the seventh instalment of the nine-part season at Chaillot-Théâtre national de la Danse, devoted to the Anthropocene.
