‘Baselitz – The Retrospective’: The Centre Pompidou presents six decades of creation

From October 20, 2021 to March 7, 2022, the Centre Pompidou hosts “Baselitz – The Retrospective”. This is the first comprehensive exhibition dedicated to the artist, a retrospective covering six decades of creation. Born in Saxony in 1938, Georg Baselitz spent his adolescence in East Germany before becoming one of the major figures of German neo-expressionism in the mid-1960s. His work remains unclassifiable to this day because of his ability to paint “images that have not yet existed”. Just in time for FIAC, the Centre Pompidou invited art professionals and friends to discover the exhibition during a private visit in the presence of the artist. Among them: Sarah Moon, Sophie Calle, Jean-Charles de Castelbajac or Nathalie Obadia.
