The History of Photography is on Show at the Centre Pompidou with “Corps à Corps”

“Photography is an immediate answer to a perpetual question” once said Henri Cartier-Bresson. The Centre Pompidou’s latest exhibition breathes a new meaning into this quote. By gathering over five hundred photographs and documents produced by around one hundred and twenty historical and contemporary photographers, “Corps à Corps” offers an unprecedented look at photographic portrayals of the human body during the 20th and 21st centuries. The exhibition, which features works both from the museum and Miran Kramitz’s personal collection, transcends traditional categories such as “portrait”, “self-portrait”, “nude” or even the so-called “humanist photography”. It unveils singularities and “photographic” ways of seeing shared by different artists. It allows us to explore their shared obsessions through both their approach to each subject and their stylistic choices. During the opening evening, we had the pleasure of meeting Marin Kramitz, Nathalie Obadia, Julie Jones, Marie Maertens, and Florianne de Saint Pierre.
