As Artissima Opens its Doors, Turin Becomes the (Art) Capital Once Again

These days, Turin stands as a sanctuary for contemporary art. Artissima, a vibrant fair held from November 3rd to 5th within the sleek confines of the Oval, embodies this refuge. The theme of the 2023 event, “Relations of Care,” ardently champions the safeguarding of diverse perspectives and all life forms, elevating the pursuit of knowledge. The preview on November 2nd saw 181 galleries bedecked in their finest, a grand display that drew collectors, curators, artists, and a tapestry of cultural luminaries. Among the esteemed attendees were Sergio Risaliti, the artistic director of Museo Novecento in Florence; Stefano Seletti, an enterprising visionary; Marc Spiegler, the former global director of Art Basel; as well as gallery owners Guido Costa and Tommaso Calabro. Lorenzo Giusti, director of GAMeC in Bergamo, and Paride Vitale, the vibrant force behind his eponymous communication agency, graced the occasion along with a cohort of artists, including Guglielmo Castelli, Valerio Berruti, Enrico Tealdi, Romina Bassu, Pierre Vermeulen, and Marinella Senatore. This year marks the thirtieth anniversary of the fair, now in its second edition under the insightful direction of Luigi Fassi. Three decades rich with vivacity have transformed the Savoy capital into a hub of modern creativity. The city hosts a kaleidoscope of exhibitions, performances, and discussions, weaving through its every nook, from Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo to Gallerie d’Italia and the Fondazione Merz.”We must place our trust in the visual symphonies crafted by artists,” shared Fassi. “Drawing inspiration and insight, we can reforge our perceptions, guiding the evolution of society. Art stands as the most potent salve for these tumultuous times. “It is necessary, however, to trust it.
