Art Basel Miami Beach brings out the world’s biggest names in art

The most anticipated event of the year, Art Basel Miami Beach officially opened to the public on December 6th. The day prior, a select few attended the private opening of one of the most important events on the international art scene. The impressive program spans more than 200 modern and contemporary art galleries from all over the globe, showcasing no less than 4,000 artists from all disciplines and generations. With several sectors (“Nova” for works created over the last three years, “Positions” for major projects, and “Kabinett” for exhibitions presented within select gallery booths), Art Basel Miami once again delivered. Tomás Saraceno—who made his mark with a carte blanche exhibition at the Palais de Tokyo—presents an installation on the beachfront in partnership with Audemars Piguet: “Albedo” is a participatory work composed of umbrellas reflecting sunlight and creating energy. Meanwhile, Abraham Cruzvillegas inaugurated the Grand Ballroom with a huge installation combining contemporary dance and, well, trash. Roaming through the aisles of the fair, one is likely to bump into contemporary art world mainstays like Emmanuel Perrotin, Jean Pigozzi, Frank Elbaz, Daniel Arsham, Chantal Crousel, Lawrence Luhring, and countless others…
