Giorgio Armani honors Peter Lindbergh with “Heimat: A Sense of Belonging” at Armani/Silos

When one icon meets another. Giorgio Armani has paid tribute to Peter Lindbergh with an exhibition dedicated to the prolific photographer’s work at his Silos space in Milan. On Friday, a day before opening to the public, Armani hosted a private viewing of the exhibition curated by the designer and the Peter Lindbergh Foundation that will run through August 2nd. Lindbergh photographed several campaigns for Armani throughout his long career and the two remained close for decades. The exhibit titled “Heimat: a Sense of Belonging” highlights Lindbergh’s unique viewpoint and unmistakable aesthetic through both more well-known work and never-published projects. “Heimat” means “home” or “homeland” in German and is one of three main themes of the exhibition that also features “The Naked Truth” and “The Modern Heroine.” Lindbergh died at the age of 74 last September, leaving a ripple of mourning in the fashion, photography and art worlds in his wake. As a very high energy Milan Fashion Week invaded the streets nearby, the exhibition brought a molto chic Milanese crowd together for a nostalgic look back at the fashion world through the lens of one of its most prized photographers.
