Fondation Beyeler and Globus, United to Defend the Environment

The Beyeler Foundation and the department store Globus join forces for the environment. The occasion is offered by the Calls for Action project, the second iteration of the “Globus Public Art Project.” This year, the initiative is signed by the Swiss-French artist Julian Charrière who will transform the historic department store in Basel, currently undergoing renovation, into a work of art that aims to connect the mountainous Switzerland and the misty forest of the western Andes in Ecuador. It’s a radical intervention in public space that invites citizens to protect the rich biodiversity of an ecosystem now endangered. On the market square, the artist will install a telephone booth where visitors can listen to and engage in dialogue with this distant ecosystem through a phone, creating a more intimate connection between the city and the jungle. Through this collective experience, Charrière wants to show how art can become an essential tool for highlighting the most pressing environmental issues of our planet.
