BMW x The Icon: The Flying Vessel

The Icon, BMW’s new hydro-foiling boat, lives up to its name. Its technical specifications are impressive: with no less than six battery packs borrowed from the BMW i3 model, it can reach a total capacity of 240 kWh to power a pair of motors with 136 hp each. The Icon has an operating speed of 24 knots (44 km/h), can reach 30 knots (55 km/h) and has a range of 50 nautical miles (93 km) thanks to foil technology, which the manufacturer claims reduces the energy needed to navigate by up to 80 per cent versus a conventional boat. It cruises almost silently, vibration-free and without emitting waves, in complete harmony with marine life.
