The Musée National de Céramique Celebrates A Magical 200th Anniversary
The Musée National de Céramique is gearing up for a lively bicentenary. Founded in 1824 by Alexandre Brongniart, the museum is a showcase for the Manufacture de Sèvres and is home to an incredible collection of porcelain items of all kinds. In celebration of its 200th anniversary, the museum presents the exhibition Merveilles!, gathering together masterpieces from all periods and all corners of the world : around 50,000 ceramics, alongside graphic artworks, paintings and extremely rare raw materials. Each piece is unique and uncategorizable, although the exhibition is organized around 10 main themes: the Cabinet du Savant, les Lointains, la Maison des Contes, les Inattendus, la Vie en Rose, le Pouvoir des Fleurs, Tout ce qui Brille, Joyeux Anniversaire, la Chambre des Merveilles and la Galerie de Portraits. A real cabinet of curiosities to discover from October 11th to March 10th.
In addition to these priceless wonders, the museum is at the heart of an artistic explosion that accompanies the main exhibition. It hosts the 10/10 showroom, featuring historic porcelain services decorated by a dozen artists, as well as the Grand Feu installation by studio GGSV, where porcelain becomes flame. Finally, there was a performance called Feu Brongniart by Marjolaine Caron and Louis Bachelot. Dedicated to Alexandre Brongniart, it took place in the Manufacture’s grand casting workshop. A packed and exciting program for the anniversary of an emblematic museum.
At the exhibition opening, we met Anaïs Boucher, René-Jacques Meyer, Christine Vivet-Peclet, Judith Cernogora, Françoise Pétrovitch, Delphine Miroudot, Viviane Mesqui, Céline Paul and Hervé Lemoine.
