The Jeu de Paume Art Center Celebrates its 20th Anniversary With Two Major Exhibitions
“Family Ties” unveils the large-scale prints of American photographer Tina Barney, offering an intimate look into the private lives of America’s East Coast wealthy class and European aristocracy. This retrospective, which retraces 40 years of the artist’s career, is the first of its kind in Europe.
Jeu de Paume simultaneously pays tribute to Belgian filmmaker, artist and writer Chantal Akerman (Brussels 1950 – Paris 2015) with an exceptional exhibition telling the singular career of this emblematic figure, who still inspires and fascinates generations of artists and film lovers. Her movie Jeanne Dielman, 23 quai du commerce, 1080 Bruxelles (1975) was awarded the title of “Greatest Film of All Time” in 2022 by the British magazine Sight&Sound.
Quentin Bajac, director of the Musée du Jeu de Paume and curator of “Family Ties”, and Alain Dominique Perrin, President of Jeu de Paume, both gave speeches, where we met Tina Barney, Annette Messager, Rosalie Varda Demy, Maria Grazia Chiuri, Cristina Cordula, and Valérie Belin.
