Best of the 74th Cannes Film Festival, from the red carpet to the theater

The 74th Cannes Film Festival has kept all its promises. After last year’s cancellation, this new edition started at full speed with an opening ceremony led by Spike Lee’s jury and a tribute to Jodie Foster. On the red carpet, directors, actors and their teams followed one another for two weeks with more talent and glamour than ever. A few moments to remember: Camille Cottin and Matt Damon as a delightful duo, Virginie Efira and Paul Verhoeven presenting ‘Benedetta’, or the Sandor Funtek and Theo Christine for ‘Supremes’ by Audrey Estrougo. Nicolas Bedos’ ‘OSS 117’, with Jean Dujardin and Pierre Niney, was the last screening on the schedule, while ‘Titane’ by Julia Ducournau caused a real shock wave on the Croisette. On Saturday, July 17th, the French director won the Palme d’Or and became the second woman in the history of the festival to win the highest award – after Jane Campion in 1993 for ‘The Piano Lesson’. Another nice surprise was the victory of Renate Reinsve, a young Norwegian actress who won the Best Actress award for her role in ‘Julie (en 12 chapitres)’ by Joachim Trier. The award for Best Actor went to Caleb Landry Jones for ‘Nitram’ by Justin Kurzel. Also noteworthy: the Award for Best Director went Leos Carax for ‘Annette’ with Marion Cotillard and Adam Driver, and the Grand Jury Prize was awarded to both Asghar Farhadi for ‘Un héros’ and Juho Kuosmanen for ‘Compartiment n°6’.
