The first Centurion House is born. In the very heart of New York City, on the corner of 42nd Street and Vanderbilt Avenue, the 55th floor of the One Vanderbilt skyscraper is now home to an exclusive space for American Express Centurion cardholders. Designed by the Yabu Pushelberg studio, Centurion New York offers a total of 3.500 square meters of pure luxury overlooking the most iconic Manhattan landmarks, from Central Park to the Empire State Building. Lounges, event rooms, discreet work areas, cocktail bars, a wine vault and two restaurants, led by Michelin-starred chef Daniel Boulud, are some of the amenities that the Amex team offers to the Centurion Card members. Black is the colour chosen by George Yabu and Glenn Pushelberg to set the tone for the whole atmosphere, while the various rooms (including the concierge’s desk) feature photographs, drawings, sculptures and paintings by notable international artists, transforming this deluxe corner into a sort of private art gallery. But who can access it? Obviously, Centurion Card members have priority access to the restaurants and lounges and can bring guests. Non-Centurion members, on the other hand, require a reservation. But, given the high demand and limited capacity, it is possible that even a reservation may not be enough…
