We have often sung here the praises of houses bordered by an azure Pacific, hemmed in with foam, their cement burnished by the sun. But the era now calls for more mineral, brutalist, arid landscapes. This house designed by Studio Dangaran, in the heart of the Palm Spring desert, offers another kind of beauty, holds another kind of power. Here, no well-ordered garden, but nature in its most authentic, wildest expression. To create a dialogue, the studio has chosen a perfect parallelepiped, echoing the ambient chaos, and tempered by soothing furniture. Nothing is there and yet nothing is missing. And when night comes to cover the horizon, a cinemascope desert outshines any television show!
