Team Ikuzawa x Chris Labrooy: Too Cool For School

Scottish artist Chris Labrooy came up with this unique idea when looking at a 1988 archival photograph of a Team Ikuzawa motorcycle racer. He had a clear vision, that of an 80s superhero/racer who, armed in his racing suit, would ride off against the papier-mâché monsters that Japan used to produce in its children’s series. Regarding the colour palette, the artist used that of the famous Ikuzawa team. A mainline collection is designed by Mai Ikuzawa, daughter of legendary Formula 1 driver Tetsu Ikuzawa, blending contemporary art and neo-vintage fashion. As for the motorbike, this prototype is reminiscent of the 80s cartoon constructions, where fantastic bodywork allowed motorbikes to be transformed into robots. A cool and arty little capsule, just the way we like them.
