Takashi Murakami x Hublot: Watches Meet the Metaverse

The collaboration between Japanese artist Takashi Murakami and Swiss luxury watchmaker Hublot is back. This unusual duo joins forces for a fourth time to create thirteen exclusive watches and NFTs, inspired by the universe of video games and 1970s Japanese TV. The official presentation of the collection will take place at Watches and Wonders Geneva 2023 by the end of March, yet the actual sale will not begin until early April. Getting a hold of any of these precious timepieces won’t be an easy task, however. For twelve of these thirteen watches will be available for purchase on an e-commerce platform exclusively accessible to owners of a previous NFT series released by the duo as part of their partnership in 2022. What about the thirteenth, you may ask? It’s called Classic Fusion Takashi Murakami Black Ceramic Rainbow and it will set the stage for all the others. Topped with a smiling flower, this piece is a true Murakami trademark. The Tokyo-based artist chose to create each of the twelve petals in a sparkling rainbow colour palette made of sapphires, rubies, amethysts, tsavorites and topazes, contrasted against a 45mm black ceramic case. So as the watch hands move, the gemstones change hue from richer to more vibrant, sparkling along with the flower. In short, the passing of time has never been so poetic.
