At New York’s Salon 94 Design gallery, Locatelli Partners unveils a refined new interpretation of Nullus Locus, created in collaboration with Korean artist Sally J. Han. At the heart of the installation are five new vases in four distinct shapes, where painting merges with embroidery: Han’s meticulous artworks are translated into thread using over 80 colors, turning embroidery into a painterly medium.
The technique evokes the Renaissance tradition of tapestry cartoons, elevating both painting and textile arts in a fluid exchange. Thread is sewn into wood thanks to the expertise of Graziano Giordani, who spent over a year adapting sewing machines for the task—merging mechanical precision with manual dexterity.
Each panel is crafted through a meticulous and customizable process, from the type of wood to thread colors and stitch designs. In this way, the client becomes a co-author, shaping the expressive potential of the material to suit the unique needs of each project.
