When young German Rudi Klein immigrated to the United States in the 1950s, his life was a grim picture. After starting out as a butcher’s apprentice, he quickly began importing out-of-date European sports cars as a more lucrative activity. Unaware of the fabulous treasure he was gathering, he stored the most legendary models in an open-air junkyard in South Los Angeles. Lamborghini, Porsche, Ferrari, Mercedes, Jaguar, Facel Vega: the collection includes not only cars, but also a stock of parts unique in the world. The entire collection will be auctioned on October 26th by RM Sotheby’s, who has uncovered a veritable treasure trove.
