Rubelli x Bonacina, the Continuum Armchair by Gio Ponti Turns 60

The legendary Continuum armchair turns 60. It was in fact 1963 when Gio Ponti conceived this design jewel for Bonacina, an independent family-run design brand founded in 1889. The Milanese architect’s objective was to give consistency and shape to the idea of a continuous and sinuous brushstroke, inspired by organic shapes that stand the test of time. A true jewel, a hymn to contamination with the environment, with nature and biology, which does not feel the passing of the seasons and always remains contemporary. On the occasion of the important anniversary, Bonacina has chosen to shine the spotlight on an evocative collaboration with Rubelli, where excellence and historicity become one. The two companies, which have been active in design for almost a century and a half, have chosen to revisit the Continuum also thanks to the partnership between Rubelli and Richard Ginori (of which Ponti was creative director) in the creation of unique fabrics. The final effect is an exciting project dominated by a mix of lacquered and aniline-dyed structures, available in the new Bonacina Indoor Color Card, and by precious fabrics that harmoniously mix quality, tradition and design (photo by Filippo Ferrarese).
